The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
